Pharmacology Courses
Pharmacology could be defined as the branch in medicine that deals with the way drugs react on living organisms. That is, the study could be diversified especially if one was to try and understand the reaction of these drugs in every part of the body. In general, expounding on every part of the body would help us understand more about pharmacology courses. Due to the name and objectives that connect pharmacology to pharmacy, people often tend to confuse these two studies.
Where as pharmacology courses may be meant to enlighten people on the reaction of the drugs on the human body, that is, absorption, side effects and excretion, pharmacy may only be concerned about explaining to the people the importance of dosage, intake, periods and explanation on the instructions. The history of pharmacology could be dated back a few centuries. This may be the case if we try to understand the ideal aspect that did of course lead people to trying to understand how drugs and plant substances act on the human or living body systems in order to cure a certain illness. Even in the past, humans desired to understand this concept.
Although the history could be dated back a few years ago, pharmacology courses were officially introduced in the early 19th century. The main concept of introducing them was to classify people according to different modes of understanding of the reaction of medicine in the human body. People were categorized according to the metabolism, reaction and excretion. All in all, certain categories were forced to study on how medicine reacts with the brain, the purpose of the brain to the reaction of the drugs a well as the side effects. The study in connection with the brain was known as neuropharmacoly.
Other studies included the need to understand how medicine affects both humans and animas, this category is well known as clinical pharmacology and is one of the most popular pharmacology courses that people seem to be joining in for. It is important to understand that psychopharmacology and neuropharmacology are two different studies in relation to the brain. Unlike neurophramacology which entirely deals with the study of the nervous system and how medication could affect the system functioning, psychopharmacology on the other hand focuses more on the study of how the drugs act on the brain.
This is better explained if one observes the changes of the behavior in terms of the body functioning. Other known divisions that people could study for as far as pharmacology is concerned involve, toxicology which is the study of effects in relation to what harm drugs could cause to the body. Due to the need where people require knowledge on the genetic structure of the human genes, and hence how drugs cause certain differing reactions to test objects or people, pharmacogenetics was brought into focus.
Pharmacology is offered in various certificate levels beginning from certificates to doctorate degrees. Dosology may also be included on the basic understanding of how drugs affect age, sex and weight. The meaning of this concept is that dosology, although it sounds more pharmaceutical, could be categorized as a pharmacology course.
